The Fight Goes On For Gay Adoption Activists

Many argue that homosexuality is just a matter of sexual orientation, and two people in love, regardless of their gender, should be allowed to have a family to call their own. Naturally, two people from the same gender are not biologically compatible to conceive a child of their own. The solution? Gay adoption has been advocated throughout the decades all over the world. The reasoning is simple: there are a lot of kids out there who have been abandoned, so why deprive couples the chance to take care of them and love them as their own, even if the couple belong to the same gender?
Love knows no limits, after all. Love is not easily perverted, nor is it as easily ruined. Hence, it should not be restricted, least we restrict the very nature of love. Two people from the same sex may be in love with one another, and though such has been considered as taboo during the earlier part of human history, times have changed and people have come to realize that gender is just gender. So why deprive such couples from extending their love to a child whom they can call their own?
Not all states, and not all countries, allow gay adoption, however. In the US, only the states of California, New Jersey, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Vermont, Ohio, Washington, New York and Wisconsin allow same sex adoption. Internationally, only the countries of Andorra, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, some territories in Canada, Scotland, England, Belgium and South Africa allow the same.
There are also borderline cases that may or may not allow gay adoption. In the countries of Denmark, Tasmania, Germany, Iceland and Norway, for example, same sex adoption is only allowed when one partner is to adopt the natural children of the other partner. Anything outside stepchild adoption is prohibited.
But the fight for the universal acknowledgment of gay adoption rages on. Studies by prominent psychological institutions like the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association have concluded that the rearing of a child by gay couple produces no ill effects on the upbringing of the ward. This has fueled the cause of people who have been campaigning for the allowance of same sex adoption even more.
Indeed, if equality is the battle cry of the free world, gender discrimination should not be present in the adoption process. We are all humans underneath, and our sexual orientation aside, we are capable of the same kind of goodness that the best of us can manifest.
